Together, the people of north San Diego County and Old Mission San Luis Rey Historic Foundation, Inc can form and mold the strategy to save Old Mission San Luis Rey through the creation of a successful endowment program for ongoing maintenance and restoration. 

This collaborative effort can also save Old Mission San Luis Rey from condemnation through funding the seismic retrofit.  Working together, the people of north San Diego County and the Old Mission San Luis Rey Historic Foundation, Inc, will enable Mission San Luis Rey to remain a living example to be experienced rather than pictures in a book to be remembered.

We need your help. This project will cost $3.1 million dollars. We have already collected in cash and grants $2.4 million, but still need to raise $700,000 before we can start work.

Because this Old Mission is a National Historic Landmark there are many rules governing how the work must be done.

No gift is too small. Every dollar we collect gets us nearer our goal.

Many of you have history at Mission San Luis Rey. You may have grown up in the parish, have family in our cemetery, may have been married there, or baptized there or attended school there...or you may just take great pride in this magnificent architectural masterpiece...and many others have great respect for the contribution of the hundreds of Native Americans, the Luiseno whose labor made this old adobe structure possible.

A group of community leaders started the Old Mission San Luis Rey Historic Foundation in 2004, a 501.C-3 Charitable group separated from the Franciscans and the Church, dedicated to the preservation and restoration of this Old Mission.
